Peter Gilchrist defeated Dhruv Sitwala 671-234 to win the 2025 Barton McGill Auckland Open at the Papatoetoe Cosmopolitan Club in New Zealand.

Success for the Singapore representative saw him lift a second successive World Billiards ranking event title following his victory at the Sydney Open in Australia last week.

The Barton McGill Auckland Open was the first of a double-header at the Papatoetoe Cosmopolitan Club with the Body Corporate Administration New Zealand Open immediately following.

A field of 23 cueists took part in the two-day event and Gilchrist began the competition with a trio of group stage victories over Grant Hayward, Ian Bright and Tristan Lau.

A top contribution of 201 helped the former world champion to a comfortable quarter-final win over host nation player Mark Taylor before a 651-228 success over Australia’s George Chammas secured his place in the title match.

India’s Sitwala, who won his maiden World Billiards ranking crown at last year’s Auckland Open, was the opponent in the final but it was Gilchrist who saved his best billiards for the vital moment as a tournament high break of 213 saw him to the title.

The World Billiards season continues with the Body Corporate Administration New Zealand Open which takes place at the Papatoetoe Cosmpolitan Club in Auckland, New Zealand.
